NEWS The Association of Colleges (AoS) has commissioned a B2B procurement portal that it claims will save the public sector up to £100m a year. In a deal announced today, the FEOnline online hub will be built by e-procurement specialist E-Government Solutions to provide a one-stop shop for the UK's 440 colleges. The website will let colleges source everything from stationary to minibuses online. According to the company, it will slash procurement costs from an average of £75 per transaction to as little as £10. According to the AoC, the site will also help streamline the lengthy administration procedure, shortening the purchasing cycle by up to 90 per cent. AoC chief executive, David Gibson said in a statement: "This is a major opportunity for all member colleges to benefit from real savings in purchasing at a time when the low level of funding in colleges is reaching crisis point." The news comes as public sector organisations are finalising plans to meet the government's target of making all public services available online by 2005. by Elly Pinkerton
