NEWS Outsourcing giant Computacenter has won a contract to help the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions (DTLR) modernise their licence registration system. The company will be maintaining the Windows 2000-based architecture services for the Traffic Area Network (TAN), a unit of DTLR. TAN maintains a database of operating licences for commercial vehicles. Professional drivers can now register their licences electronically via their local TAN office. The new system will allow TAN operators to deal with drivers either by phone or online with any of TAN's eight regional offices for all their UK licences. Previously they could only deal with the office local to each specific site. The five-year contract worth £3.75m in total will support TAN's existing technology infrastructure and will be used by its 350 staff throughout UK.
