NEWS The chief executive of the NHS Information Authority - the body charged with getting the health service wired - has quit. Nigel Bell, chief executive of NHSIA, is leaving at the end of the week, according to a statement on the NHSIA website. He will be replaced temporarily by his deputy Gwyn Thomas until a permanent replacement can be found. Alastair Bellingham, chairman of the authority, credited Bell with building a single unit from the various divisions he inherited. "Having completed the task for which he was recruited, he has not been able to give a commitment to remain with the organisation over the next two years to lead it through the next phase of development and delivery. In those circumstances, we have agreed that his immediate departure is the best means of achieving the stability and progress that we all seek. We wish him well in his future career," he said.
