NEWS A survey of project managers has revealed that no matter how hard they try, or how patient they are with the board, company executives just don't get IT. A quarter of the developers and project managers questioned feel that directors remain confused by IT terminology, no matter how clearly they try to explain it. Furthermore, 43 per cent of techies say reporting back to the board is the task they dread most. Chris Purrington, UK managing director at middleware infrastructure company Borland, who commissioned the survey, explained this dread is partly because expectations are set incorrectly in the first place. However, he added the communication between technical staff and the execs is a two way street. "Technical staff need to learn to speak in layman's language. We want to enable customers to deliver on time and on budget. However, we are still seeing projects delayed and this is one of the reasons why."
