Retail giants shave £200,000 off utility bills online

Online electricity auction reaps dividends for M&S and John Lewis...

NEWS Marks & Spencer and John Lewis have saved close to £200,000 on their electricity bills after joining forces to buy energy online. The two retailers conducted a joint auction on UK energy market place Utilyx, each tendering a 12-month electricity contract with a combined value of over £20m. The two companies had previously conducted separate auctions with Utilyx, but the joint auction reaped savings at least £100,000 higher than the best results of the individual auctions. According to Chris Bowden, CEO of Utilyx, the companies made a one per cent saving on the £20m joint auction. The new supplier will provide energy to 347 Marks & Spencer stores, and 154 John Lewis stores.
