Web services: CIOs can't choose between Sun and Microsoft

But they do know that price is important...

NEWS CIOs are evenly split between Microsoft's .Net technology and the Java platform when it comes to rolling out web services, according to the latest survey. One hundred CIOs polled in a survey across Europe and the US by investment bank Merrill Lynch said price is their main criteria when choosing a solution. Increasingly the web services arena is being characterised by a rivalry between solutions based on Microsoft's .Net platform and Sun Microsystem's Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) platform. Two thirds of the CIOs are employing application servers to run their web services projects.
