ITNet scoops £3.5m council contract

NEWS Controversial outsourcer ITNet has been awarded a £3.5m contract to manage the London Borough of Tower Hamlets'(LBTH) core IT services. The two-year contract begins this month, with an option to extend it to 2007. "The scope of the contract includes the transition of the mainframe workload from current supplier ICL and the hosting of services within ITNet's Birmingham data centre. It also involves hardware maintenance, help desk provision and disaster recovery planning for AS/400, Unix and mainframe services. The services were previously outsourced to three different suppliers. ITNet has come under fire for its part in the troubled housing benefits project with Hackney Borough Council. Readers of Private Eye might be wary of ITNet, but that's not stopped it having a bumper year
