For now at least...

NEWS Sony has claimed it has no intention of cutting the price of its Playstation 2 console in response to an escalating war between the top three gaming companies. Nintendo has slashed the price of the Game Cube to £129 from £150 ahead of the European launch date on 3 May. Last week Microsoft cut the cost of its Xbox by £100 to £199 to compete directly with the market leader, Playstation 2, following the company's failure to meet sales targets by 40 per cent. However, a spokesman from Sony Entertainment said: "Sony has absolutely no intention to cut the price of the Playstation 2." With the Playstation 2 at the head of the market and Nintendo offering the cheapest gaming machine in the UK, it looks like Microsoft will have a tough time in recovering lost sales.
