NEWS The police will launch a new squad to crack down on the growing problem of credit card fraud. The new unit will focus on credit card counterfeiting, which grew 50 per cent last year and cost £160m. The total cost of card and cheque crime rose by 30 per cent to £411.4m in 2001. The unit is a joint project between the Home Office and the banking industry's Association for Payment and Clearing Services.
