NEWS Ericsson has outsourced its helpdesk and other internal IT support operations in Ireland to EDS. The move sees 24 key Ericsson staff move across to the IT services giant, and will affect the Swedish telecoms equipment company's 1,900 Irish employees. No value for the deal was disclosed but it is part of a wider European outsourcing agreement signed in spring last year which sees EDS take over the running of Ericsson Unix and NT servers, data networks and PCs in 16 European countries. EDS said the Ireland contract means Ericsson sees reduced costs while maintaining levels of service.
