NEWS Only one in ten IT directors in the UK are happy doing their current jobs. One third would rather be taking on a bigger role in a new organisation, while another third are prepared to progress their careers by staying with their existing employer - but want more responsibility.
The figures, which come from research conducted during this year's IT Directors' Forum, also show that many tech chiefs are not content with their remuneration packages: Just over 34 per cent believe they are underpaid when compared with their peers in other organisations.
Forty-six per cent said they receive an adequate salary for what they do.
Interestingly though, female heads of IT are much less satisfied with their monthly pay cheque than their male equivalents: Fifty-three per cent of the men surveyed were happy with their salaries, compared with just 39 per cent of the women.
Nine per cent of men think they are paid a generous salary none of the women polled could say the same.
Despite the image of IT being all about long hours and high stress levels, the vast majority of IT directors find their work/life balance acceptable (52.5 per cent), or not interolerably unacceptable, at least in the short term (36 per cent). Cumbersome decision making processes were identified as the bane of the IT chief's life.
The survey was conducted among 366 IT directors, heads of IT, board directors and other senior managers.
We'll bring you more results from the survey next week.
