NEWS The British Council has paid Getronics £1m for a virtual private network linking 218 sites around the world. The IT services provider designed, supplied, tested and configured the network, which is based on Cisco equipment and uses the public internet. The IT department at the British Council, the official UK body for education and cultural relations around the world, deployed the technology itself after training was given from Getronics. Email will be the first application to run over the secure connections, to be followed by financial and other apps.
