NEWS Over half a million people can now defend claims for unpaid monies over the internet with today's introduction of new functionality to the Money Claim Online (MCOL) website. MCOL, the Court Service's first online service, was launched in February this year, and enables users to make claims to recover money owed to them. To date over 16,659 claims have been issued using the MCOL service. Yvette Cooper, minister for the Courts at the Lord Chancellor's department said: "MCOL phase two will allow people to defend claims over the internet. This is another important step forward in our programme to modernise the courts, making them more accessible and providing a service that suits the needs of the people that use them, rather than the people that run them." She added: "Already, Money Claim online is the fourth highest issuing "court" for money claims - behind only the large county courts in Leeds, Birmingham and Liverpool." Money Claim Online is designed to be easy to use and defendants, whether they be individuals, small business or large firms, can send their response to the claim online, view the progress of the case against them and use the online user guide and the Customer Service helpdesk.
