NEWS Hilary Cropper CBE, a formidable force in the UK IT industry, is to step down as chairman of Xansa in September due to ill health. Since she took over as chief executive of FI, the pioneering home working for mothers in the IT industry organisation, she has grown the company from a £7m, largely local enterprise, to a quarter-billion pound company with operations in Europe, North America, India and Asia-Pacific. Cropper has been receiving treatment for ovarian cancer for the past 18 months. She handed over the CEO reins last year to Alistair Cox but oversaw a restructuring of the company to meet the IT downturn which was completed earlier this year. Xansa and its employees have always had extensive involvement in community charitable works, mostly focused on young people in this country and abroad. Cropper will remain a member of the company as Honorary President and will "continue to promote and represent the company in certain key external forums". Xansa expects to name a new chairman before its AGM on 17 September.
