NEWS Vodafone has increased its role in the wireless email revolution - launching its first service for the Research In Motion BlackBerry device.

RIM's popular gadget, which ensures business users and consumers get no respite from incessant emails, is already offered by O2 and T-Mobile in the UK, and now Vodafone users will be able to enjoy similar levels of pervasive connectivity.

The first product to hit the shelves is the BlackBerry 7230 Wireless Handheld. The mobile operator will be offering a package for enterprise level use of the gadgets, which can be integrated within corporate email infrastructure, as well as a service targeted towards consumers and small businesses.

The enterprise service goes live this month in France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain and the UK and the consumer service will be available from next month.

Peter Bamford, chief marketing officer at Vodafone, said in a statement: “A key part of our strategy is the provision of easy to use services that meet the needs of our customers. We have worked closely with RIM to deliver this customised BlackBerry solution to ensure that our customers have a seamless, consistent Vodafone experience across a range of devices and service offerings.”
