NEWS Hewlett-Packard has set up a call centre in India to support US customers who use HP consumer products, in another sign that overseas operations are attractive to US tech companies.
The operation has not meant a loss of jobs for US workers, according to an HP spokeswoman.
"The work was already being done outside the US," she said. She added that the move gives HP greater control over the quality of its support service. The support is for products such as cameras and PCs.
The spokeswoman said she did not know how many employees are working at the centre.
She added that not all of HP's support work for US consumer electronics customers is done from abroad. HP supports English-speaking customers in the United States via about 4,000 employees from partner companies based in countries including the United States and Canada.

This is about 3 years out of date late.HP/Compaq have been in India for many years. (Ed note. We didn't say it was the company's first foray into India - you appear to be reading something into the story which isn't there. We merely reported HP's latest move into India.)

When will these companies get the hint..
No longer will I buy HP cd readers/writers, printers mice or anything else from them.. I shall now switch loyalty to another manufacturer.
OK, I am only a small fish, but a lot of small fish take up an awful lot of water...

Lets hope HP customers are supported better than their suppliers. With HP moving their Accounts Payable to India last year getting bills paid has proved a nightmare !
