NEWS With the 2005 deadline for all government agencies to be fully online approaching, the Department of Trade and Industry has published a new guide to help local authorities and their 800,000 suppliers get the most out of e-procurement.
The DTI has an dedicated area of its website, www.dti.gov.uk/bestpractice, with information on which suppliers are already involved in er-procurement or thinking of doing so; which government agencies are particularly keen on online buying; and bodies that offer support.
The drive towards e-procurement in particular is driven by the government's desire to cut costs and administration by encouraging local authorities to trade online and use the internet to source supplies - one method of doing that, a reverse online auction, encourages the suppliers to drop their prices lower and lower.
The Office of Government Commerce will also be holding a seminar on e-procurement later this month.
