NEWS A millionaire IT company boss has been elected as the Conservative Party's first black MP.

Adam Afriyie said he was "delighted" to win the safe Tory seat of Windsor with 21,646 votes - a 49.5 per cent share of the vote. The victory was welcomed by outgoing Tory leader Michael Howard.

Afriyie, 39, was founding director of Connect Support Services, an IT services company which offers installation, help desk, technical and project management services.

The company was listed in the Virgin Sunday Times Fasttrack 100 of Britain's fastest growing private companies in 2002.

The company, which targets small and medium sized business, began operating in 1993 and now has more than 400 customers.

Afriyie is also chairman of DeHavilland Information Services, a news and information services company, and was a regional finalist in the 2003 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the year awards.

So this poor sod is the whipping boy for the next government IT disaster.

    He has my sympathy

(Ed note. The Tories actually missed out this time around but his credentials may well stand him in good stead for exactly the job you suggest should the Conservatives win a future General Election.)
