NEWS A group of universities and colleges are looking for IT suppliers to provide desktop PCs and services in a framework deal which could be worth as much as £150m.

The contract - the Higher Education Consortia Inter-Regional Desktop Agreement for PC Equipment - looks to set up a framework agreement for the supply of desktop PC equipment and on-site managed services.

Universities and colleges may wish to acquire the technology by purchase or lease arrangement.

The framework contract will cover organisations such as higher education establishments, the UK Research Councils and other bodies including colleges of further education.

The deal initially involves three higher education buying consortia - the London Universities Purchasing Consortium; the Procurement Consortium for Scotland and Northern Ireland; and the Southern Universities Procurement Consortium - but other higher education groups may participate at a later date.

The procurement document said the potential value of the framework agreement is estimated at £150m over four years.

The contract is initially for three years but subject to satisfactory supplier performance it may be extended another year.
