NEWS Project management certification Prince2 has become one of the most in-demand IT courses in Europe, with one trainer claiming the UK's first accelerated learning course sold out in less than two hours.
Robert Chapman, founder of the Training Camp, claimed somewhat tongue-in-cheek that such a record makes the Prince2 course "more popular than Oasis" - the band that took slightly longer to sell out their latest UK tour dates.
Prince2 - which stands for 'Projects in controlled environments' - has become a staple among qualifications sought in the public sector, where project management has at times been something of an oxymoron, with projects running over budget and over time. Chapman added that qualified Prince2 contractors command around £33 per hour.
"A fair chunk of people signing up for this course are from the public sector," Chapman told silicon.com. "But surprisingly there is a lot of interest from utility companies and financial services where there is obviously a strong adherence to procedures and processes."
Chapman attributed the growing interest in project management training to a number of factors, including revived budgets in the private sector which have seen ever-larger projects undertaken.
"The complexities of projects within companies continues to grow," said Chapman, adding that it is important all parties involved with any project have a thorough understanding of it, from conception to completion, and understand where they fit in.
