NEWS Colt has appointed a new CIO, Rob Wharton, a former regional IT chief at Nortel Networks and T-Mobile.
Wharton will report to the European telco's CTO, Alireza Mahmoodshahi.
In a statement Colt said Wharton will be responsible for all internal IT and, in particular, drive the systems programmes which support the company's "transformation and simplification goals".
Wharton started his career at ICL and has worked for Standard Telecommunication and Cable, making for a CIO CV dominated by stints at IT and telecoms companies.
Many telcos choose to have separate CIO and CTO offices, and Colt is among those where the CTO - mainly concerned with the technology decisions that affect the network and actual offered telecoms services - has a higher ranking.
