Keeping the PCs whirring without costing the Earth

By Steve Ranger, 13 September 2006 11:35

The Eden Project, in Cornwall, is a not-for-profit charitable trust. Its mission: to promote understanding of the relationship between plants, people and resources. And making its IT as green as possible is part of this.

This picture shows a view of the site with the new education centre - The Core - in the foreground.

And where is there anything about keeping PCs whirring without costing the Earth? Please make your captions fit your stories!!!

I'd be curious to know if there's any attempts at Eden Project to tap into photovoltaics - plants do it so well!

From memory of a visit last year, the answer is no, which seems a pity considering they have a vast roof area on the new education block. PV panels are not exactly green though - the process of making them, both the chemicals used and the energy consumed actually puts question marks over their real benefits. What would be more useful near Eden would be the use of wind power, but not in the quarry itself.
