The Renault Formula 1 team was testing at Silverstone this week ahead of the Suzuka Grand Prix in Japan in October - crucial now that with three races left rival Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher has closed the gap on Renault's reigning Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso to just two points. Renault driver Heikka Kovalainen - due to replace Alonso next season - clocked the fastest lap time of the day (one minute 19.125 seconds) around the British Grand Prix circuit.
