IT is now one of the many factors that can give a Formula 1 team that extra 100th of a second competitive advantage that makes the difference between winning and losing a race. The amount of electronic data processed has grown exponentially - just a few years ago the data from a single race could be stored on a single floppy disc. Now the volumes are "massive". Luca Maccozzo, of the Renault Formula 1 team, said: "If you want to win the championship you have to optimise everything."
