Where the tables get the drinks in for you...

By Jo Best, 20 September 2006 11:15

The tables are all waterproof and can fold down to let students rest their pints on them.

In addition to ordering drinks, students can use the built-in screens to send text messages, play games and soon even to order taxis.

A system to request music from the student radio station is expected to be added shortly too.

I suggested something like this years ago when I was at college, apart from I also wanted to to the ability to select music from the table and also possibly web-cams etc. which customers could look through to see their cocktails etc. being prepared!

Great Idea which should be rolled out to more places.

May I pose a couple of questioms.
Just who pays for all this? Is this the way in which the University is wasting the ever rising tuition fees or this just a gimmick to feed someone's ego trip.
Durability, in a inevitably drnk fuelled emvoronment. How long will it last????
A week, three days, or less???

That is pretty cool i have to say, but i suspect it'll be costly for bars to actually implement this technology.

I also suggested this several years ago and was told the problem was the legal requirement of the barman to ensure he didnt sell more alcohol to some one who had had a few too many! It will be interesting to see what happens especially if these tables are consuming 40% more as in your article
