Photos: Tower of London trials virtual escapes

GPS-enabled location-based game for tourists..

By Andy McCue, 10 November 2006 10:30

The game works by giving the visitor a handheld GPS-enabled iPaq device that tracks their location. The player can then choose from six historically accurate escapes from the Tower of London, with the aim of helping the prisoner evade the Yeoman Warders - better known as Beefeaters. Every time the player gets caught they land five years in the Tower.

Aileen Pearce, exhibition project manager at the Tower for the Historic Royal Palaces, said: "It's about getting visitors to take part in the story. It makes history fun, and we are keen as an organisation to trial innovative technologies."
