430 jobs for Scotland as US firm opens call centre

First Data, the US payments processing company, is to open a call centre in Glasgow creating 430 jobs over the next five years.

The move has been welcomed by deputy first minister Nicol Stephen MSP, who said the Scottish Executive has given a £2.3m grant to the project as an incentive to the company.

First Data International sells electronic processing, ATM and POS services, and customer management to card issuers in nearly 70 countries.

The financial services industry generates £5bn (nearly six per cent) of Scotland's GDP and is one of the fastest growing sectors of the Scottish economy, having grown by 36.5 per cent over the past five years, the government claims.
