BA is the first UK airline to achieve 'end to end' chip and PIN accreditation with the banks - which means every part of the payment process from the point at which the card is put into the machine to the point where card details are exported to the bank - meets the requirements laid out by the acquiring banks and regulatory bodies, such as payment body the Association of Payment and Clearing Services (Apacs).

Richard Cushing, retail business manager of in-flight services at BA, said the airline has already seen the level of credit card fraud on flights reduced substantially since the introduction of chip and PIN.

The rollout of chip and PIN on the UK's high streets is 95 per cent complete, according to Apacs.
