Marks & Spencer has awarded IBM a multimillion pound contract to upgrade its in-store systems.
The revamp will include an integrated stock and sales application, and will focus around the implementation of an IBM Epos platform running retail software company PCMS's Beanstore point of sale application.

According to M&S IT director Darrell Stein, the upgrade will provide better and faster service at the till point, improving the overall shopping experience for the retailer's customers.
Based on a Java platform, the Beanstore application is designed to provide a high degree of flexibility, with a user interface that can be configured for multiple store formats and for on-the-shop-floor training. It also supports multiple languages, based on the user's login.
The implementation across the retailer's 400 UK stores will take place over the next three years.
Stein said: "The new stock and sales application will be rolled out across Marks & Spencer stores in 2008. The new point-of-sale systems will be introduced progressively from the end of 2008, with final deployment in 2010."
