Red top newspaper The Sun has launched a version of its site on the dot-mobi domain.
According to dotMobi, which runs the domain, The Sun is the first national newspaper to launch a version of its site optimised for downloading on a mobile device in compliance with the dot-mobi standard.
The dot-mobi domain is only awarded when a company can demonstrate adherence to a number of principles that should ensure the site is device- and carrier-independent.

Andrew Bagguley, head of mobile strategy at News Group Newspapers, which publishes The Sun, said: "Although we have mobile distribution deals with Sky, O2 and Vodafone, our direct to consumer [over mobile] play has been understated so far. Taking the dot-mobi domain is in keeping with making the site simple and easily accessible in the way our readers find it."
Bagguley told silicon.com The Sun's sister paper The News Of The World is due to get the same treatment in the next couple of months.
Sun readers can now access the site on their phones by typing 'thesun.mobi'.
