Drinks giant Diageo has appointed a new CIO to fill the seat left vacant after previous IT chief, Robin Dargue, left to join Royal Mail.

Diageo's new CIO is Brian Franz who joins from rival PepsiCo International where he was senior VP and CIO.

Franz will take up the post on 17 March and report directly to Diageo's CFO, Nick Rose. He will be responsible for leading the company's 450-strong IS team and overseeing global IS operations.

Rose said in a statement: "Brian is a very talented and energetic leader whose experience and very strong technology credentials will be of great value to the IS team. With his successful track record of senior leadership positions, together with his keen commercial mindset he has a good understanding of the core levers of business growth and the role IS can play."

Prior to joining PepsiCo, Franz spent 14 years at General Electric.
