Salaries for IT staff in London have slumped in the last year, a survey has claimed.

The average IT salary in the capital now stands at £37,707, according to recruitment company CV Screen which monitored over 35 job roles in London. The recruiter said IT salaries in London have fallen by 2.3 per cent over the last 12 months.

CV Screen's account manager for London, Alex Lawson, said the fall in IT salaries is to be expected due to the recession, adding the increase in available candidates will continue to put downward pressure on salaries over the next 12 months.

But he said there is still demand for candidates with PHP, .Net and C# development skills.

Lawson added the demand for IT staff is declining at a much slower rate than other sectors, and said there is still demand and competition for quality candidates.

A separate survey by the National Computing Centre found IT salaries in the UK rose by 3.4 per cent last year.
