While the credit crunch might mean fewer of us have money to play with, more of us than ever will be looking it after it on our mobiles.

According to analyst house Juniper Research, 150 million people across the world will be using mobile banking by 2011.

These millions will be mostly based in developed countries, with 70 per cent expected to come from the Far East, North America and western Europe.

Getting over regulatory issues and user concerns around security will be key in boosting mobile banking take-up, the analyst predicts.

As well as banking money, millions of people will also be gambling it using their mobiles. A separate report from Juniper last month found that global mobile wagers will total $3.6bn this year.

The UK already has a taste for a mobile flutter: the research found that 30 per cent of all mobile bets are made by Britons.
