Monsters and aliens will be leaping out of movie screens across the UK this weekend - courtesy of some serious processing power.
Dreamworks Animation SKG 3D flick Monsters vs Aliens tapped into the power of HP workstations and servers to breathe life into creatures who are able to flow across the screen like liquid.
The film was created using several hundred HP xw8600 Workstations, one of which is seen here.
Monsters vs Aliens also used the muscle provided by a group of HP ProLiant blade servers - the most powerful render farm ever used by Dreamworks Animation.
One of the most technically challenging sequences of the film involved a flyover of a town, including houses, hills and trees. In this shot, the background trees had to be broken up into more than 300 layers to render.

Er... isn't this thinly disguised PR puff dressed up as news?
