Barclaycard is increasing the number of its cardholders that will have contactless functionality on their plastic.

Barclaycard Gold and Classic cardholders on the receiving end of a new or replacement card will now be able to make payments of up to £10 by swiping their card against a reader, thanks to contactless payment technology within the card, similar to the system used for Oyster travelcards on the London Underground.

According to Barclaycard, around two million of its contactless cards are currently in circulation including Barclaycard OnePulse, Barclaycard Platinum and Barclaycard Goldfish credit cards.

Barclaycard launched its first contactless card in 2007 and has pledged to have all of its debit cards equipped with contactless tech by 2011.

Among the retailers that currently accept such payments are Coffee Republic, Eat, Krispy Kreme and Pret A Manger.

as long as I can either have a metal wallet to keep it in or a version without near field comms built in I don't mind

I don't want contactless payments and I'm never going to use contactless payment

I really don't mind wasting a few seconds by using cash, I'm not in that much of a hurry

I'm with Karen on this one. How long before a criminal sets up a duplicate reader and installs it in a ticket barrier? Or just wanders through a crowd picking up £10 a time.
    Sorry, no thanks.

We are beta testing our 2duCard which is a contactless card for loyalty and payment... ours has an on/off button ! I just don't understand why this isn't being implemented with other contactless card systems ? The concept is simple and the security improvement is huge.
