Business systems firm Agresso is to lead a €17m project to replace IT systems at the UK's Department for International Development.

The poverty-fighting arm of the government, which employs more than 1,400 people around the world, chose the firm to co-ordinate a number of vendors for the project, dubbed Aries.

The firm is to replace legacy equipment with financial reporting systems to cut data duplication and speed up response times to parliamentary questions.

The applications will be installed on servers in the UK and delivered to the international locations via satellite.
