HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has signed a four year, multimillion pound deal to implement supply-chain management technology which will lead to "significant" cost savings.
IT services company SCC said the contract it has signed could be worth as much as £560m if the technology is adopted across the entire public sector.
HMRC commercial director Mark Forth said in a statement: "Through this new partnership we will be able to deliver significant cost savings and process improvements."
He added: "An essential aspect in awarding this contract has been the flexibility and commitment SCC has demonstrated in defining the best way we can work together to deliver real value and efficiencies."
HMRC is the third largest IT user in UK government today.
SCC chairman and CEO, Sir Peter Rigby, said in a statement: "This is an important, high value new customer win for SCC, representing our most significant contract to date with one of the largest central government departments in the UK."
