This chip will go on the back of the personal information page.
It will hold the scan of the holder's facial features embedded in the chip.
Other security features include enhanced background checks on applicants and face-to-face interviews for first-time adult applicants from October 2006.

Enhnaced background check:
Passport office: "So, Mr Bin Laden, is it just one S in Osama?"
Osama: "Yes"
Passport office: "Thank you, that's the enhanced check complete, now please smile at my Fisher Price face scanner"

Passport renewal - seems like if you've four years or less to run on your passport you may as well renew it now. You'll save yourself anything between £5 and £40 quid.

Passport Office: Well, a background check shows that you have relatives in Germany and some of your family members have been linked to “undesirable” neo fascist parties in the past. A further check reveals that you spend a huge amount of your time out of the country in foreign lands, we even have evidence that you are a Muslin sympathiser (or at least Muslin tolerant); we have several pictures of you shaking hands with Arab people; walking in a Mosque (with head scarf and no shoes) and generally being friendly to none British people- all very suspicious. And despite a letter of reference from your Danish-Greek husband saying that he has known you for many years, we are sorry your Majesty, but your request for a new Passport is denied. Your biometric data will now be passed over to the Police to see if it matches any unsolved crimes.
