The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has a signed a 10 year contract with LogicaCMG to provide an incident recording system.

Under the terms of the contract, worth in excess of £5m, LogicaCMG will develop the MoD's Incident Recording Information System (Iris) which collates and analyses health and safety information for the MoD's 300,000 personnel.

Iris will feature an information capture tool, workflow tool and management reporting layer to help the MoD gather information on the trends and frequency of accidents.

The incident recording app will also work between MoD and non-MoD systems, so the systems can exchange information on incidents and claims.

Michael Rutter, director of safety and environmental policy at the MoD, said Iris will increase the MoD's understanding and awareness of occupational health and safety risks, and produce "battle-winning people and equipment".

Iris will be rolled out in early 2008 across 1,000 users ranging from incident and claims handlers to equipment managers and MoD policy staff.
