A consortium led by ITN is in final negotiations over a £50m, five-year contract from the government to provide on-demand video content to teachers.

Called Teachers TV, the online service offers educators teaching materials and guidance on how to enhance their own skills.
Schools minister Jim Knight said in a statement: "The next few years will be an exciting time for the Teachers TV service. We will build on the existing success of the channel and begin the important transition to a service which will take full advantage of the opportunities presented by on-demand and web-based delivery."
More than 2,000 complete programmes are already available over the service, which was launched in 2005. Programmes can be viewed over Sky, Virgin Media, Tiscali TV or through the service website, www.teachers.tv. The service will be handed over to the consortium, Education Digital 2, at the end of August.
