Croydon Council has signed an extension to its IT outsourcing deal with Capgemini, worth an estimated £83m over five years.
The new deal runs until 2013 and covers all the council's IT and telecoms infrastructure and networks, 4,000 desktop PCs and key business applications, including finance, procurement and customer service.

Capgemini will also provide consultancy services for Croydon's transformation programme to improve the level and efficiency of local services.
The council says the deal will enable significant investment in new technologies such as a wireless network infrastructure, the upgrade of key business systems and hardware and a new council-wide geographic information system.
Nathan Elvery, director of finance and resources at Croydon Council, said the existing deal with Capgemini, signed in 2003, has already been key in helping the council achieve a "step change" in IT effectiveness and overall business efficiency.
