Matthewman will be responsible for the organisation's infrastructure strategy and delivery. In his former position at insurance company BGL, he led the technology strategy for its in-house retail brands Bennets, Budget and Comparethemarket.com.

Matthewman will be joined by Guy Ker as director of publishing and Mike Hoban as director of communications and engagement. Ker comes from ITN where he was COO and will be responsible for publishing information and championing the organisation to government stakeholders.

Hoban has previous experience with big consumer brands including British Airways, Scottish Widows and Barclaycard and his new responsibilities will include maintaining the public profile of Directgov.

Directgov makes information on all government services available to the public over the internet, mobile phone and digital TV, with its direct.gov.uk website attracting more than 10 million visits per month.
