
The digital divide is alive and kicking: according to 2004-05 figures released by the ONS, 87 per cent of higher income households have an internet connection, compared to just 18 per cent of lower income homes. In its latest 'Internet Connectivity' report, the ONS also reports a 5.6 per cent increase in the 'total number of active web subscriptions' between December 2004 and December 2005, as well as rising levels of broadband connectivity (64.2 per cent of all connections) - and declining rates of dial-up (35.8 per cent).
