
We've heard the one about paid-for email but now the New York Times is reporting on the possibility of a two-tier internet. According to the paper, the booming demand for web bandwidth means telcos are looking to expand their networks - and to pass on the cost of such upgrades. This could result in larger, more affluent sites forking out money in order to ensure their content is delivered to customers quicker - meaning smaller sites are effectively priced into the cyber slow-lane. And the consumer, meanwhile, is likely to foot the bill via ecommerce price hikes… Registered users of the NY Times can read on here.
