University College Dublin (UCD) has awarded Redstone a five-year contract worth up to €4.5m to provide storage area network technology.
The initial implementation will cost €750,000 and will be used to support the university's 3,000 staff, together with 22,000 under- and post-graduates in teaching and research activities across its five colleges and research institutes.

Based on an HP platform, the network will ultimately provide 300 terabytes of storage capacity and will be one of the largest HP storage implementations in Ireland when it reaches this size, according to Redstone.
In a statement, UCD CTO Shaun Kennedy said: "Redstone put together the most compelling package - combining excellent service levels, understanding of our requirements and a trustworthy HP architecture."
The contract was unofficially agreed in February and the initial implementation of 40 terabytes of storage capacity has been completed. The remainder of the contract requires Redstone to support and develop the network further over the next five years.
