The BBC has appointed a new CIO as part of a restructuring of its broadcast and enterprise technology area within the Future Media & Technology division.

From 12 October, Tiffany Hall will be responsible for strategic planning of the BBC's infrastructure and information security systems as well as heading up the development and delivery team.

She will also support the corporation's business systems and professional services teams which include HR, Marketing Communications & Audiences, Finance and Property.

The other major part of Hall's role will be to better communicate the BBC's technology strategy to third-party tech suppliers to help them when pitching for business - an initiative instigated by her new boss, BBC CTO, John Linwood.

Hall will continue to cover her current head of development and delivery role - which was newly created in July - until a replacement is found.

Hall joined the BBC from Shell as an IT project manager in 1995. She then became head of business systems for News where she managed internal and external service level agreements and the implementation of an electronic news production system.

She has also been technology controller for BBC Nations & Regions, which saw her setting the technology strategy for the launch of BBC Northern Ireland's Digital NI project, and head of technology for News from 2000 to 2005.

As exclusively reported by silicon.com, the corporation's previous CIO and silicon.com CIO50 2009 member, Keith Little, departed in August.
