Too High Too Low

Bezos has risen up the rankings once again by keeping Amazon at the forefront of online retailing and also by guiding the company deeper still into a more web 2.0 world.

In May Amazon announced plans to launch an online music store featuring downloads without copyright restrictions. The songs will be taken from more than 12,000 record labels but without digital rights management software, meaning they can be played on any device.

In the past year Amazon also introduced its novel Simple Storage Service - effectively hiring out spare online data storage - which was developed by its in-house Web Services team and demonstrates how the company is continuing to evolve.

This is the seventh year Bezos has been on the list but he is considerably higher than last year's position of 43 - his lowest ever placing - suggesting that he is unlikely to fade away just yet.
