It's not been a smooth ride for Howard Stringer since he took the top role at Sony in 2005. A big part of his job has been to oversee company-wide changes in the face of a loss in market share to niche rivals such as Apple's iPod and Microsoft's Xbox.
However, it's Stringer's ability to lead Sony through these changes - and cement the company's role as a pioneer in the consumer electronics business - that earns him a spot on the Agenda Setters list.
Recent wins include the adoption of the company's Blu-ray DVD technology by Toshiba - ditching its own HD DVD format - as the preferred standard for the next generation of DVDs. And plans on the horizon to develop IPTV technology will no doubt turn heads.
Welsh-born Stringer, the first foreign leader of a Japanese electronics company, is just the sort Sony needs to regroup and prove it's still a force to be reckoned with.
