Computer programmer Jeremy Allison is one of the co-founders and leading developers of the Samba team that developed a suite of open source software in 1992, released under the GNU general public license (GPL), that enables 'file and print' interoperability between Linux and Unix servers and Windows clients.
It's his work to remove the barriers to interoperability between these two worlds - a key piece in enabling Linux to become accepted in the enterprise - that earns Allison a spot on this year's Agenda Setters list.
An outspoken and senior ambassador of the free software movement, Allison quit Novell in 2006 following its open source patent pact with Microsoft - because, he said, the deal went against the GPL spirit of equal sharing.
From there Allison joined Google, where he is now exerting his influence in the search giant's open source team.
