After joining HCL in 1985 Vineet Nayar worked his way through the ranks, holding senior positions in sales and strategic marketing, and he has been CEO of HCL since October 2007.

Panelists praised HCL for having an approach "that sustainably ups its creative agility to challenge the Indian big three at their own game and win through".

Under Nayar's stewardship, Indian outsourcer HCL is also threatening to steal away a portion of the high value SAP installation market from Western outsourcers. And it seems that HCL's decision to snap up UK-based SAP specialist Axon for $650m last year is already reaping rewards.

This year the Black Book Survey of Outsourcing - based on feedback from outsourcing clients globally - placed HCL at the top of the list of global outsourcing companies.
